I was not the type of person to go to the gym all the time and exercise, and I never enjoyed participating in gym class while I was in school. Thankfully, I have a good metabolism and have never had to worry about gaining too much weight. Until recently—of course, even for those with the best metabolism, things slow down with age. A few years ago, my husband and I decided to join the gym and I went along with it, kicking and screaming. I didn’t want to work out “in front of a bunch of people.” However, we joined and it went well and I enjoyed my time at the gym. Yes, my hubby was right. However, recently, we decided to cut back on some things and we stopped paying for our gym membership. We then decided to do workouts at home. That didn’t work out too well and we weren’t doing any type of exercise for a while. Until recently—we’ve started doing Pilates and plyometrics in the morning and yoga at night.
I always had a negative connotation in my mind about yoga. Doing meditation? What was yoga all about anyway? My sister kept asking me to try to do some yoga with her sometime and I always looked for a way out of doing it. Eventually she bought me an instruction book and some beginner DVD’s to learn how to do yoga at home. Well, let’s just say that I have been doing yoga for about a month and I absolutely love it. I’ve seen so many benefits so far in just a short amount of time. Really, it’s been kind of unbelievable to me.
So what have been the benefits I’ve seen? For starters, I have been learning how to find my center. Now, I am a Christian and I don’t participate in meditation activities, but I use this time to mediate on God’s Word and pray. In doing yoga, I’ve gained a new sense of confidence and have learned calming, breathing techniques—which have helped me with learning to relax and dealing with daily frustration issues. If you do yoga the right way and with the right attitude and intention, you’ll definitely learn how to control anxiety issues.
I have issues with carpal tunnel since I work on the computer all day. I take the Vitalizer from The Shaklee Store and also take extra supplemental B Complex to help with carpal tunnel issues. Doing the yoga has also helped my arm issues and increased blood flow and I am grateful for having taken the steps to start yoga. I also hurt my back recently when I was watching my niece and doing yoga has been a catalyst for the healing process. I like how doing yoga has helped to strengthen my back muscles and is creating a leaner and healthier me.
Some other benefits of doing yoga is that it helps to restore proper breathing, treats PMS, cures insomnia and prevents headaches. Have you tried yoga? Are you ready to make a difference in your life today?
