Healthy Habits

I believe one of the most important parts of healthy eating is getting enough protein. You probably expected me to say water but since I've been working on that one for thirty years, I think I've mastered it. I love water. Protein, lean protein, is important as well. It's what gives you that feeling of satisfaction after eating and it's essential for all body functions. Without enough protein in your diet, your body will take what it needs from your muscle mass and I know I can't afford that. Can you?
I've always looked for chicken, turkey, and tuna as my main protein sources. Eggs, too. However, with the high content of protein in yogurt and cottage cheese, I've recently been switching more toward low-fat dairy products. Unlike many people, my body has no problem digesting dairy products. It's important to watch out for additives in the list of ingredients, too. Getting high protein that is only edible with tons of high fructose corn syrup or even sugar is not a good idea. Also, low fat in dairy products can be pretty easily be attained. The fat rises to the top and in the old days (before my time) the milk delivered to your door still had the layer of cream on it. I also look for dairy products from grass fed cows. A cow's natural diet is grass and you'll get more nutrients from their milk than a cow eating a corn-based diet.
Thank you for sharing about these healthy habits. I agree about the importance of protein. I like eating Greek yogurt and add apples, granola and honey.
